Some residents of Rumson have been sent contracts by the borough that would make them responsible for tree upkeep and sidewalk repairs.
The contracts come as several Rumson residents were upset with the borough's decision to chop down many of the trees lining streets around Center Street. Town officials say the trees are either unsafe or have roots that are damaging sidewalks.
Residents met with Rumson officials Monday afternoon to discuss the dispute.
Property owners hope their sidewalks could simply go around the trees, similar to the sidewalks on Lennox Avenue.
