Wednesday was the fifth day of a heat wave in New Jersey.

Jersey City is once again expected to hit 100 degrees. But relief is coming.

Van Vorst Park has plenty of shade and a splash pad to keep cool, bringing lots of people out to enjoy, safely.

"It's fun, but when I get sweaty, I just go in the shade, so it's mid," said Amelia Katez.

It was a mediocre day at the playground for Amelia, but her mom thinks it's pretty great.

"I'm a teacher, today is our first day of summer break," said Margaret Devico. "Amelia said she wanted to go to the park, so we went to the park."

This park is cleaned up by volunteers like Marc, who has been doing that for nearly 30 years. He says he is still not used to this brutal heat.

"No, that's why it's very brief, half an hour and we're out of here," said Marc Wesson. "We have this sprinkler system. These guys have shade to work in."

From people to pets, there's something for everyone to beat the heat.

One neighbor even brought a pool for the dogs to jump in.

"We're hoping that we won't need the pool much longer because the temperatures won't be near 100," said Wayne Mitchell. "Going to be in the 80s, and dogs are pretty cool at that point."
