A comedy inspired by a Monmouth County Cuban-American family starts streaming nationwide this weekend.
Jacqueline Pereda says "Generation Por Que" is inspired by her own family. She plays the character Jackie, a struggling actress caught between striking out on her own and the wishes of her more traditional parents - who are Cuban immigrants.
Pereda's hometown of Marlboro even gets a shout out in one of the scenes.
"Generation Por Que" will stream starting this weekend on HBO Latino and HBO Max.
Pereda began writing the project four years ago, which has been screened at film festivals before getting picked up by HBO.
The pilot is streaming and Pereda is hoping that a series comes next.
