Children with special needs got to meet a cat with special needs in an effort to learn that someone who is born a little different really isn’t very different at all.
Leftie is a Russian Blue cat who cannot use his hind legs. He is able to move around with a wheeled harness.
Leftie met with the children in the Life Skills class at Robert Lazar Middle School in Montville Wednesday.
The staff at the Pequannock Animal Shelter says that they wanted to show the students that although Leftie was born with some special needs, he is just like any other loveable cat.
“I want the kids to see that although Leftie has limitations, he sees himself as just any other cat. There are things that he's good at. There are things he's not good at.  But at the end of the day, he's just like any other cat,” says animal control officer Christie Anne Smith.
Leftie is looking for a loving forever home.
The Life Skills class will donate half the proceeds from their next breakfast club to Leftie.
