Changes are underway at Neptune Place Beach in Sea Girt where a 2-year-old boy got trapped when the sand suddenly gave out.
Crews from the United States Army Corps of Engineers have since removed the sand dredged onto that section of beach surrounding the sinkhole. The entire area remains cordoned off.
Sea Girt Police Chief Justin Macko tells News 12 New Jersey that the town continues to work together with the Department of Environmental Protection and Army Corps to make sure everything in that area is safe and to figure out exactly what went wrong.
An area of sand gave out on Feb. 10, trapping the little boy. His dad got him out. The boy was not seriously hurt.
The replenishment equipment has left the area and moved north to other Monmouth County beaches.
