It's National Hot Dog Day and there's no better place to celebrate than Second Avenue in Elizabeth. The location is home to two classic New Jersey hot dog joints - Jerry's Famous Frankfurter's and Tommy's Italian Sausage and Hot Dogs.
For more than 50 years, the two businesses have operated just three doors away from one another. And while the annals of restaurant history are full of turf wars that split families or wind up in a courtroom or maybe even a hospital, by all accounts Tommy's and Jerry's are a friendly rivalry.
On today's episode of "Brian's Positively New Jersey,” Brian Donohue attends Elizabeth's annual Hot Dog Day Celebration outside the two eateries, discussing the history of each place and talking with locals about how they make the difficult decision over which one to choose.
