A man who was caught on camera removing cash from a donation box in Ocean City has been arrested.
Police said 64-year-old Daniel Munoz has been charged with several theft-related offenses in connection to an incident that occurred Friday, June 5 at a business on Asbury Avenue.
On Tuesday, Ocean City Police posted on social media that they were "requesting the public’s assistance in identifying this gentleman who helped himself to a donation box filled with currency for the Ocean City Humane Society." In surveillance video, the small box can be seen sitting on a counter, filled with cash.
Footage shows the suspect reaching in and removing money from the container. According to police, the man was wearing a "distinctive" ring on his right index finger. He was also dressed in what appears to be a Philadelphia Eagles jersey and cap.
Police later posted an update saying that "due to the overwhelming assistance from the public, the subject was identified, arrested and charged accordingly." Police say multiple people called and emailed the department with tips after seeing the pictures on social media. The information helped investigators locate the suspect.
Munoz was released on a summons, police said.
