Four fishermen were rescued Sunday after their boat capsized in the waters in Belmar.
The incident, which was caught on video, happened in front of Captain Bobby Quinn, who was also fishing nearby. He then sprang into action.
"I looked, their boat, Jesus' boat, literally started sinking at the stern, and literally two seconds later, it just flipped right over, and all these guys went right in the water," Quinn said, recounting the moments before Jesus Peralta and his three friends struggled to stay afloat in the Atlantic Ocean.
Only Peralta knows how to swim.
"We were lucky we were right there because by the time we got the anchor up and got to them and started getting them into the boat, it was maybe a minute or two," Quinn added.
The group was fishing a few miles away from Belmar when their boat began to fill with water and then capsized.
"My crew... they got that 'man overboard' ladder out, which we practice every year with the Coast Guard for just this kind of situation," Quinn added.
It was not immediately clear what caused the boat to go over.
The Coast Guard is now reminding boaters to wear life jackets and always tell family or friends where they will be out on the water and when they are coming back to land.
Peralta reminded his new friend of his gratitude for rescuing him and his crew from the water.
"Thank you very much for everything. Thank you for the captain. Thank you for helping my guys," Peralta said.
"We got him dried off and then we fished the rest of the day, and they caught fish," Quinn said as he and Peralta shared a laugh.
