A case of the mumps has been reported at Grice Middle School in Hamilton Township, according to a letter sent to parents by the school district.
The
letter says only one student reportedly has the disease. There is no word if any others are being monitored for symptoms.
Mumps is caused by a virus and is spread by mucus or droplets from the nose or throat of an infected person, usually when a person coughs or sneezes.
The most common symptoms of mumps are fever, headache, muscle aches, tiredness and loss of appetite.
