Two people were arrested Wednesday night after a car involved in a chase crashed into a woman’s home in Ridgefield Park, police said.
Angel Feliz, 19, of Guttenburg, and Michael Vivar, 19, North Bergen, were both apprehended in connection with the crash, Ridgefield Park police said.
Authorities said the crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Ridgefield Avenue near Brewster Avenue in Ridgefield Park.
Witnesses told News 12 New Jersey that the crash happened while two cars were involved in a chase with one another in an apparent road rage incident on nearby Route 46. Witnesses said the drivers were involved in a fender bender down the street from the home before the chase began.
The driver of a Mercedes SUV lost control during the chase and crashed into the home on Ridgefield Avenue. The SUV then caught fire, according to witnesses.
Ibrahim Omar said he heard the cars speed by and then heard two crashes. He said he found the Mercedes lodged into the home’s porch.
“So then you see the driver of the Mercedes get out of the car. He gets into a white BMW...and they drove off aggressively,” Omar said.
Omar said people tried to prevent the Mercedes driver from leaving the scene, but they were unsuccessful.
The driver of the other car involved in the chase, along with Omar’s brother who is a physician, helped bring the injured 90-year-old woman out of the home to safety.
The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment. Police said she was not seriously injured.
Feliz was charged with assault by vehicle, and Vivar was charged with hindering apprehension by providing aide.
Ridgefield Park Lt. Joseph Rella said motor vehicle summons will also be issued. He did not specify who would be issued a summons.
