The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the fatal shooting of a bystander in Jersey City.
The family of victim Larry Freeman says he was making repairs to a neighbor's car when the shots rang out just before 3 p.m. on Sackett Street.
"He started early in the morning. He will work until sundown if there's work to be done. I don't know what took place. All I know is my brother is not here anymore," says Marilyn Freeman.
The neighbor, whose car Freeman was working on, says she paid him to make repairs. She was inside the car when the shooting happened.
"I heard the shots, or the firecrackers. I heard a pop," she says. "I just dove to the bottom of my car."
Friends and family say Freeman was well liked around the community. They say that he knew so many people because he always strived to help them with his skills as a mechanic.
"Whoever did this, you need to catch them," says Freeman's wife Clareesa Williams. "He didn't deserve this. Not Larry."
Anyone who may have any information about the shooting should contact the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office at 201-795-6400.
