President George W. Bush attended a private fundraiser Monday in Colts Neck to support two local politicians.
Security was tight and several streets blocked off near the home of Juan and Marta Gutierrez, where the fundraiser was held for two Republican congressional candidates. State Sen. Leonard Lance is running for the 7th District seat, while Chris Myers is vying for the 3rd District seat.
With Bush?s approval rating at 22 percent in New Jersey, some residents had mixed opinions on his visit.
?I think it?s exciting. He?s the president of our country. He?s a wonderful person. I?m very proud of him,? said Middletown resident Florence Longette.
?I?m not too thrilled about it. I?m not a huge fan of his. I wish he?d just stay away ? he?s just [going to] cause us trouble with traffic and I don?t think we need him here,? said Marciea Fairley, of Colts Neck.
After his stop in Colts Neck, Bush is scheduled to give his farewell address at the United Nations in New York City Tuesday.
