Bullets, fragments and knife recovered at Colts Neck murder scene

Testimony resumed Wednesday in the murder trial of Paul Caneiro. He's accused of murdering his brother Keith and Keith's family back in 2018.
Just one witness took the stand - Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office Detective Sergeant Stephen Vogt, who is in charge of gathering and holding evidence at the murder scene in Colts Neck.
Vogt told the 16 jurors about what was found at the Caneiro family crime scene. Graphic photos were shown showing evidence markers placed inside and outside the residence. Assistant prosecutor Nicole Wallace asked Vogt about bullets, casings and fragments found around the mansion.
In particular, Vogt testified a knife and bullet were recovered in a debris pile, which was sent to the state police lab for testing.
Vogt told jurors how bulets and fragments of bullets were found and removed from Keith and Jennifer's heads, and how their children Jesse and Sophia suffered massive injuries from being stabbed.

Vogt recalled how the main breaker was set to the “off” position, with a smudge seen on the switch itself.
He testified how samples of blood were taken from the kitchen, near where Jesse's body was discovered.
During cross exam, defense attorney Andy Murray questioned why on those lab submissions, Paul Caneiro was already named as a suspect.
“That is not an assertion of suspicion that came from ballistics laboratory, that's suspicion that came from either yourself or Detective Cattelona,” said Murray.
Vogt was asked about a Honda logo emblem found on the property.
“We didn't hear about the Honda emblem today in terms of the evidence submitted to any laboratories? Correct.”
Murray further asked about the perimeter of the Colts Neck property, and why tracks on a nearby access road were ignored.
“Did anybody want you to document the vehicle tracks on that dirt road? No.”
Testimony resumes Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
