Testimony reveals blood-stained jeans and guns were removed from Paul Caneiro's home on night of quadruple killing

Prosecutors and defense attorneys in the Paul Caneiro murder trial spent hours Thursday questioning one of the investigators on scene at Paul Caneiro's Ocean Township home.
Paul Caneiro is accused of killing his brother, Keith Caneiro and Keith's family, then torching both of their homes to try to cover up the crimes back in 2018.
Lt. Nicholas Cattelona testified he was tasked with searching in and around the home on Tilton Drive in Ocean Township, including the Porsche Cayenne. In it, investigators discovered a bag they say contained Paul Caneiro's passport, a knife, the barrel of a 9 mm gun and other items.
Inside the basement, more weapons were found and seized, including two handguns and more than a dozen long guns, according to the testimony.

Cattelona testified that investigators focused on a pile of frozen items found near one of the basement windows, partially burned by the fire. The pile froze when temperatures dropped below freezing, and water from the firefighters turned it into ice.
But items were separated, including a torn scarf and blood-stained jeans.
“There were parts of that pile that were frozen. So again I couldn't separate that together. That's why I brought it to the driveway and once I saw additional blood stains, I decided right there to stop and send it to the lab,” said Cattelona.
The lieutenant told jurors he photographed bruises and marks on Paul Caneiro’s body.
Later, under cross-examination, the defense asked Cattelona, "Did you ever test Mr. Caneiro for gunshot residue? Or accelerants?”
Cattelona testified that he had not.
Testimony concluded on Thursday as John Lightbody took the stand as an expert witness in fire origin and cause determination.
