Bridgewater police are hoping a little extra incentive will encourage young residents to ride safely.
The department has launched a new initiative rewarding children and young writers who follow safety rules while riding bicycles, e-scooters and e-bikes.
Officers will be looking for riders wearing helmets, following traffic laws, keeping their speeds under control and watching out for pedestrians. Those caught practicing safe riding habits will receive complimentary Chick-fil-A meal cards.
Police say the program is also an effort to address growing safety concers. The department has received frequent calls about young riders not following safety rules, and officials say there have been too many accident this year.

The initiative comes after a 16-year-old Bridgewater resident died last week when the electric scooter he was riding collided with a Tesla.
Police say the goal is to educate young riders, encourage better habits and prevent tragedies.
The cards were donated by the owner of the Chil-fil-A location on Route 22 in Bridgewater.
