A Pennsylvania boy kept on life support has died more than a month after a crash on a New Jersey interstate that also killed his father and his friend.
The mother of 13-year-old Michael LaVecchia III, of East Stroudsburg, tells The Record newspaper that he died Thursday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Doctors at another hospital had declared him brain dead a day after the Aug. 15 crash on Interstate 80, and his mother initially agreed to donate his organs. But she changed her mind after relatives saw the boy move.
His father's SUV crashed into the back of a dump truck stopped on the shoulder of I-80 in Wayne. The father died along with the boy's 14-year-old friend from New York.
