The bodies of two men, 23, and 24, were found in a lake in Winslow Township after a 3-hour search.
Police responded to Penbryn Wildlife Management area for reports of two missing swimmers on Monday around 2:45 p.m. A witness stated that his two friends had gone into the lake and did not resurface.
Divers, ground responders from the state and county and a K-9 unit scoured the area, and the bodies were recovered in the water around 4:20pm. They were pronounced deceased on scene. The incident was ruled accidental.
The owner of Stella Farms, which borders the property, says that the area was once a quarry for sand mining and has described the water dangerously deep. “No Swimming” signs are posted around the lake, which is also patrolled by NJ Fish and Wildlife
The identity of the victims is being withheld at this time.
