What was supposed to be an inexpensive way to stay cool this summer has become a costly venture for one Aberdeen family.
The Complitanos purchased an inflatable pool for about $100 for their daughter's second birthday. They were excited by the price and the conveniences that came along with pool. However, they soon learned that town zoning laws require a fence for any pool holding more than 2 feet of water.
Town officials say it's not enough for homeowners to simply take the ladder out when the pool is not being used. They say it's a danger to any child.
After two written warnings, the Complitanos agreed to put up a fence even though they feel the town is going overboard. Justine Complitano says a $100 purchase has now become a $700 project.
