A shooting on Black Friday at the Jersey Gardens Mall left one man injured and caused chaos for shoppers, Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage says.
Bollwage says a man was shot in the wrist between the hallway of Tommy Hilfiger and Marshall's around 8 p.m. Friday.
He also says the victim is not cooperating on identifying the suspect and police are reviewing camera footage.
The mall opened at 10 a.m. on Friday and had approximately 25,000 shoppers.
Simon Malls, the owner of Jersey Garden Malls, released a statement that says in part, "We are committed to providing a safe and secure shopping environment for our shoppers, retailers and employees. We have a number of proactive security measures in place, both seen and unseen, including maintaining a continuous security patrol of our property and parking lots."
Bollwage also says a Jeep that pulled into Newark Airport's Terminal A Friday night was being investigated by police after the occupants allegedly said they were at the mall during the shooting, and the vehicle had a bullet hole.
Police haven't commented why the Jeep's occupants went to Newark Airport.
The mall has reopened at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say the suspect is still at large.
