A beloved seal at Jenkinson’s Aquarium in Point Pleasant Beach has died at the age of 34.
Jenkinson’s officials say Lucy the seal was first stranded in the Point Pleasant/Bay Head Canal. She became part of the Jenkinson’s Aquarium family in 1991 after it was deemed she was “non-releasable.”
“We are devastated. We ask for your support and kindness as our team processes our grief,” Jenkinson’s officials wrote on Facebook.
At age 34, Lucy surpassed the average life expectancy of wild seals by over a decade, according to officials.
