Beaver who bit several people in Bergen County positive for rabies

Officials say the beaver came into contact with several people. They say the people who were bitten are currently receiving treatment.

Officials say that a beaver that bit several people at Lake Henry in Mahwah on Sunday tested positive for rabies.

Mahwah officials say the beaver came into contact with several people. They say the people who were bitten are currently receiving treatment.

Anyone who may have been in contact with this beaver is urged to notify the Mahwah Township Health Department so that they can be assessed by a doctor.

Mahwah officials are warning all residents to avoid wildlife, as “any warm-blooded animal can carry rabies.”

Anyone with questions is urged to call the township Health Department at 201-529-5757.
