A juvenile bear cub is recovering at a Hunterdon County wildlife refuge after being hit by a vehicle.
Woodlands Wildlife Refuge, located in Pittstown, posted on Facebook shortly after the cub was brought to their facility.
"Today we received a juvenile bear cub that was presumably hit by a car and picked up off the side of Rick Road in Alexandria Township," the refuge said in the post.
The 35-pound bear was initially treated at the Animal Hospital of Clinton-Perryville. The refuge said she was knocked out cold, but still alive when she was discovered. Despite her ordeal, the bear didn't suffer any broken bones or internal injuries, according to tests performed at the animal hospital. She is currently recovering from a concussion, and her rehabilitation will continue at Woodlands.
"Thank you to everyone who acted quickly to get 'Aurora' (our sleeping beauty) to Woodlands for care," the animal refuge said on social media. "Please keep her in your thoughts and send good healing vibes."
The refuge also said donations can be made on its website to help with the care of the cub and other animals in their care.
