All Jersey Shore beaches have gotten the green light from environmentalists to open as Memorial Day weekend approaches.
The fifth annual State of the Shore report was released Monday. The Department of Environmental Protection said the water quality is great. ?So far all of our water quality results have been with the standard and we did a test this morning, those results will be back tomorrow afternoon, so it should be good for the Memorial Day weekend,? said Virginia Loftin, a DEP research scientist.
Testing is done weekly at all the beaches. Results typically come back in about 24 hours. Loftin does suggest swimmers avoid certain areas after heavy rains, which can wash pollutants into the waterways.
As far as erosion, coastal specialist Jon Miller said the mild winter storms left the coastline in pretty good shape.
