With one week to go until Labor Day, the unofficial end to summer, many beachgoers were getting in their last bit of the Jersey Shore.
But a tropical cyclone passing through the Carolinas, which could become Tropical Storm Irma, is making conditions at the beach less than ideal.
The storm system prompted high surf and wind advisories in parts of New Jersey, as well as rip current warnings.
Most beaches posted red flag warnings Monday, which meant that swimming was prohibited. But many beachgoers say that Monday’s weather was a bit too cold to go swimming anyway.
Forecasters say that the treat of Irma should be gone by the Labor Day weekend holiday, and are predicting that the weekend weather will be nice for celebrating.
