The "Battle of the Boroughs: Yonkers Edition" once again drew crowds of fans and talented breakdancers to the Hudson Valley.

Each year, the event brings talented adults and children together to compete within their age divisions, for $3,000 in prize money.

"My dad got me a breaking class, I got used to it and I just started breaking. I went to different battles and I won a few of them," 8-year-old Dylan Huang.

Breakdancers compete against each other in the friendly battle that celebrates the dance form that began in the 1970s in the South Bronx and gained global recognition as a competitive sport at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

"I watched one video, and I liked how they danced on their heads and I wanted to try and already I can spin on my head," said 9-year-old Kris Grigorov.

The legendary rapper, Kurtis Blow, took to the stage Saturday at the "Battle of the Boroughs: Yonkers Edition" breakdancing competition.

After wowing the crowd with his chart-topping, certified gold song "These are the Breaks," Blow said he knew that breakdancing and hip-hop were headed for greatness.

"This whole mindset spread around the whole five boroughs. We give the credit and the props to the Boogie Down Bronx," he added. "I saw it happening in Queens and Brooklyn and Manhattan. That energy was so powerful and I knew it was something special in the beginning."
