A Barnegat Township man has pleaded guilty to killing his parents in their home in 2023, authorities said.

Michael Mulgrew, 37, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Eugene Mulgrew, 71, and Cheryl Mulgrew, 69, the Ocean County prosecutor said.

Prosecutors said they will seek two consecutive 30-year prison terms when Mulgrew is sentenced on June 5.

Police were called to a Lincoln Avenue home in Barnegat Township at about 11 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2023, to assist medical personnel, authorities said. As officers approached the home, they saw a man walking away and noticed what appeared to be blood on the front door.

Officers entered and found blood in multiple areas. They discovered the bodies of Eugene and Cheryl Mulgrew in a bedroom with apparent stab wounds to their upper torsos. A knife was found nearby, authorities said.

The man seen leaving the residence was later located near West Bay Boulevard and Gunning River Road and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as Michael Mulgrew. Investigators determined Mulgrew was responsible for the killings, prosecutors said.

He has remained jailed since his arrest.
