The Babylon town planning board is considering a controversial proposal to put a warehouse on Conklin Street in East Farmingdale.
The plan calls for a 122,000 square-foot warehouse with additional outdoor space to store tractor-trailers.
The site is currently occupied by an abandoned bowling alley and a soccer academy.
Some neighbors say the plan would bring more truck traffic to an already busy area.
“I’m against it because there will be too many big trucks in and out. There are homes there,” said Phyllis Carlin, of Melville.
The Town of Babylon planning board is considering the proposal at a meeting Monday night, but community members will not be permitted to comment. According to a town spokesperson, that’s because the public hearing on the issue was already held.
Some residents say they were unaware of the public hearing, because mailers were only sent to people who live within 200 feet of the site, in accordance with town code.
The developer, Prologis, contracted a third-party company to conduct a traffic study. Prologis says that study shows the proposed warehouse would not adversely affect traffic.
