An autopsy is set to determine how an infant died after his body was found outside a house in Highland Park.
A 14-year-old girl is facing charges after being identified as the mother of the baby.
The teen mother is being charged with murder as a juvenile after the body turned up alongside a multifamily house on Lincoln Avenue.
Diamond Mejias says she made the gruesome discovery around 1 p.m., and also that she found the infant uncovered with his umbilical cord still attached.
Mejias says her mother initially thought someone had dropped a baby doll.
When Mejias went to check, she says she found the body, which was cold to the touch.
She says her stepfather administered CPR until an ambulance arrived.
“When I looked for a pulse, there was no pulse, but I still gave it CPR,” says Mejias. “But I tried until the ambulance showed up on site and there was nothing they could have done."
The prosecutor's office says the baby boy was rushed to Robert Wood University Hospital in New Brunswick and was pronounced dead.
The mother will appear in family court on Tuesday.
The autopsy will be scheduled by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner.
