(AP) - Authorities are trying to recover a small plane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off New Jersey.
The New Jersey State Police dive team hopes to reach what remains of the single-engine Mooney M20J craft Thursday in about 18 feet of water. The Coast Guard called off its search on Wednesday night.
There has been no sign of the pilot, who was the only person aboard. His name has not been released.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane had left Trenton-Robbinsville airport Wednesday morning and crashed about 1,200 feet from the Cape May Lighthouse. The lighthouse and Cape May Point State Park are closed Thursday because of the recovery operation.
Plane owner Lisa Campbell of Air-Mods Flight Training Center says the pilot was a regular customer who flew recreationally.
