An alleged robber has been killed and a police officer injured during a standoff at a Keansburg pharmacy, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
The standoff began just before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Keansburg Pharmacy, located at 199 Main St. Officials say that the Keansburg Police Department received multiple 911 calls about a robbery at the pharmacy.
During the altercation, one officer was stabbed. The attorney general says that multiple police officers fired their weapons at the suspect, killing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect’s name was not released.
The extent of the officer’s injuries was not immediately made available.
The Attorney General’s Office is investigating the shooting, which is required by law whenever a death occurs during an encounter with law enforcement officers.
