Law enforcement officials have released police body camera video from the day Deptford Police Officer Bobby Shisler was shot in the line of duty.
Shisler was shot in March during an investigation. He died in May.
The video shows Shisler speaking with Mitchell Negron on Doman Avenue. He tells Negron that it is safer to walk on the other side of the street. He then asks Negron for his information and if there are any warrants out for him.
While Shisler goes back to his car, Negron runs off and a chase begins.
Shisler chases Negron through a neighborhood until he finally tackles him near a house. Shisler’s body camera falls off. There is a struggle and gunfire can be heard, but not seen.
Negron died at the scene from gunshot wounds. Shisler was shot in the leg and was rushed to the hospital. He died after several weeks.
It is still not clear who shot Negron or Shisler. Authorities have not stated if Negron was armed or if any weapons were found at the scene.
The New Jersey Assembly Transportation Committee unanimously voted last week to approve a bill to rename a section of Route 47 in South Jersey after Shisler.
