Newark officials say four members of the Newark Police force were struck or dragged by a suspect. Officials say that the car that dragged the officers was initially stopped for running past a stop sign.
Police say the suspect struck a parked car and led police on a brief foot chase. A firearm was later recovered at the scene along with various narcotics. The suspect faces multiple assault, weapons and narcotics charges.
Authorities say the four officers were taken to UMDNJ for treatment of various injuries.
Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio said in a statement: "I am relieved that the officers will all recover from their injuries. The fact that the injured officers were still able to pursue and apprehend the suspect is a testament to the determination and dedication of the entire unit. I commend the officers for the bravery and extend my prayers for a speedy recovery."
