The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office has
announced a mother from South Bound Brook has been indicted for homicide in the death of her 4-year-old son.
According to authorities, Elina Gutti, 38, was indicted for the Feb. 6 murder
of her son, Aiden Singhania.
On Feb. 6, police received a 911 call from Gutti reporting she had unexplained
injuries on her wrist. Upon responding, officers located Gutti with injuries to
her left wrist which subsequently required minor medical treatment.
Officers also located the boy with severe lacerations to his throat. He
was in a bed in the first-floor bedroom of the residence that he shared with the
defendant.
Two bloody kitchen knives were found on the floor near the bed. Singhania
was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gutti was transported to a hospital for
medical evaluation.
Gutti remains lodged in the Somerset County Jail
after being ordered detained pending trial by a Somerset County Superior Court judge.
The indictment charges Gutti with first-degree murder and two counts
of third-degree possession of a
weapon, a knife, for an unlawful purpose.
