A Brick man who fired his gun at a police officer and then himself on Monday morning is alive, authorities say.
Police received a 911 call from a woman alleging her ex-husband, Corey Johnson, broke into her home while she was at work.
When officers arrived, police say the suspect fired a shot that hit a police car before turning the gun on himself.
Johnson was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
The shooting remains under active investigation. Police did not say what provoked the gunfire.
No officers were injured in the incident. The woman was not at home at the time.
