Man arrested following daylong standoff with police in Egg Harbor Township
yesterdayAuthorities have charged a man from Trenton with murder following
the death of a transgender woman in the city's West Ward.
The shooting happened Friday around 4:40 a.m. at a house on Kelsey Avenue.
According to police, Daniel Smith, 36, is charged with murder and related firearms offenses for the shooting of Shaquil Loftin, 23. Police responded to the home and
found Loftin shot in the face.
Detectives arrested Smith late Saturday during a motor-vehicle stop in
Ewing.
Detectives are probing any potential bias motivations.
