A Perth Amboy man has been accused of killing his girlfriend’s child more than two years ago, and the death was only recently discovered.
Authorities say that the Edison Police Department was contacted to check on Monique Durham’s 5-year-old twin daughters. The investigation revealed that one of the girls was missing and that no friends or family had seen that child since 2019.
Authorities say investigators determined that Durham’s boyfriend, Matthew Chiles, allegedly “engaged in conduct resulting in the missing child’s death” and “illegally disposed of the child’s remains.” The crime apparently happened in Perth Amboy.
Chiles was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, desecration of human remains and murder.
Durham was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and theft.
Anyone who may have information about the incident is asked to call the Perth Amboy Police Department at 732-442-4400, Edison Police Department at 732-248-7400 or the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3927.
