A 7-year-old has died after reportedly falling from a high-rise building in Fort Lee.
The Hampshire House apartment building on Anderson Avenue is 22 stories high. It is where an investigation is underway Wednesday evening.
Authorities have not released many details about the incident. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office says officers responded to reports of an unresponsive child. That child was confirmed dead.
One neighbor tells News 12 New Jersey they saw a lot of police officers and an ambulance on the scene. That neighbor also said the child had fallen from the 21st floor, but this has not yet been confirmed by officials.
“Prayers with the family. When you live in close proximity to a tragedy, there’s that piece that resonates with you,” says neighbor Carolyn Strudwick.
Officials say the call came in around 5:30 p.m. The child was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and was pronounced dead.
