Authorities have released the name of a man who was shot and killed by police outside an Ocean County home.
Ocean County prosecutors say 21-year-old Julian Hoffman, of Brick Township, appeared to have a black semi-automatic handgun when he approached two township officers on Sunday night. The officers had responded to the home after a male caller told a 911 operator he was going to "create a disturbance" and then hung up.
Prosecutors identified the responding officers as 31-year-old Jay Nye and 25-year-old Ryan Osborn, who are both assigned to the patrol division.
After Hoffman reportedly defied repeated orders to drop the weapon, he was shot several times by the officers. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The officers are now on administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
