A fire has killed an East Orange man.
Authorities say that the fire broke out in a Wayne Street home around 4 p.m. Tuesday. At least six adults were inside the home at the time. All but one were able to escape.
Family members identified the victim as 53-year-old David Swiney. Loved ones tell News 12 New Jersey that Swiney had vision problems and may have struggled to get out of the home.
It was not clear how the fire started, but fire departments from around the area came to help battle the fire. The American Red Cross is also on scene to help those displaced. It did not seem that any other home was damaged.
Neighbors say that Swiney was born and raised in the home. It is believed that the other people inside the home at the time of fire were Swiney’s siblings.
