Officials in Bergen County have announced that they have arrested the man believed to be the "countdown bandit" bank robber.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office says that Marcelino Garcia, 23, robbed 10 banks since February 2015, including one today in Wallington. He was referred to as the "countdown bandit" because he would count down from 10 after handing a teller a note demanding money.
Authorities were able to apprehend Garcia in Wallington after he allegedly robbed the Spencer Savings Bank just before 10:30 a.m.
According to prosecutors, officers began to suspect Garcia after identifying the vehicle reportedly used during the robberies. After the Wallington robbery, they were able to get a search warrant of Garcia's home in Hackensack.
Garcia was charged with 10 counts of second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $750,000, and he is expected in court on June 17.
