The Attorney General's Office is probing a fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Monday involved an alleged armed carjacker in Paterson.
According to the preliminary investigation, an automobile collision occurred around 4:12 p.m. in the area of Straight and Van Houten Streets.
Authorities say one driver ran from the scene and as he fled, attempted to enter multiple other vehicles armed with what appeared to be a handgun.
Authorities say an officer pursued the man on foot. During an encounter with the driver, the officer fired his service weapon. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:23 p.m. An object that appeared to be a firearm was recovered near the driver's body.
The man's identity is not being released at this time.
