Authorities: 5 people killed in crash on Route 3 when SUV strikes front-loader
Authorities say that five people, including a 4-year-old boy, were killed when their SUV slammed into the rear of a construction vehicle on Route 3 in Rutherford.
The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said the front-loader was returning to a Route 3 construction site and heading west on the highway when it was struck from behind by the SUV. Prosecutors said 38-year-old Michelle Toledo, 20-year-old Irvina Gee, 23-year-old Sheckylle Chain, and 16-year-old Ayana Navas, all of Paterson, were pronounced dead at the scene. Four-year-old Noah Alexander Dejesus of Allentown was briefly revived but was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center.
The crash happened Sunday around 10:45 p.m. Route 3 was closed for several hours following the crash, but it has since reopened.
