A state audit shows the Division of Developmental Disabilities wasted almost $1.5 million on expensive travel and perks.
The audit found extravagant spending in 10 organizations getting funding from the agency. Excessive costs unearthed by auditors included $111,000 for Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises, $4,000 for fancy meals in Spain and a $2,000 GPS system installed in an agency CEO's company car.
The state Human Services commissioner says her agency is aware of the spending issues and is in the process of fixing them.
