FULL PRESS CONFERENCE:
Vess Mitev, who is representing Heuermann’s two children, says family members of the suspected Gilgo Beach killer have rights and liberties that need to be protected.

Heuermann’s estranged wife, Asa Ellerup, says she has been suffering from cancer and her health insurance is due to expire.
Robert Macedonio, who is representing Ellerup, expressed thanks for the support they have received from the community and said there is a GoFundMe to benefit his client and the children.
“She is going through a very difficult time, not only emotionally, but with the cancer and this newfound life she has to come to terms with,” Macedonio said.
Macedonio also said that if Heuermann did commit the murders that it was a “complete double life,” and that his wife knew nothing about it.
As News 12 has reported, Ellerup filed for divorce.
The attorney said that crews have come in to help clean the home after investigators had searched the property.
They say pipes are broken, boxes are stacked to the ceiling and the family is sleeping on foam mats on the floor.

“Their valuables were shattered, their beds were destroyed, the place they lay their head down at night no longer exist,” Mitev said.
The attorneys also say the alleged soundproof vault in the basement is a safe.
Heuermann has been charged with the murders of three women in the Gilgo Beach investigation.
He pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Both attorneys say neither the wife nor children have visited Heuermann in jail.
They say Heuermann has called his wife to speak over the phone.
