Several families in
Elizabeth have been displaced after a fire Sunday
night ravaged their homes.
The families are being housed by the Red Cross at the Elizabeth High
School gym. At least 70 people lost their homes in the fire on Smith
Street.
“They’ve just been through the worst day of their lives.
Not only did they lose their home, but they lost everything inside,” says Sheri
Ferreira, from the Red Cross. “When something like this occurs, the most
important immediate need is shelter and food and clothing.”
The Red Cross says case workers will work with the families to get them
back on their feet. Members of the community who want to help can
reach out to the Red Cross.
There are
no reports of any injuries.
The cause
of the fire is unknown at this time.
