Asbury Park is the place to be this weekend for music and art lovers.
Nearly 20 clubs, galleries and stores will have live performances and shows as part of the Asbury Underground event Saturday. The free event is expected to draw thousands.
Art gallery owner Pat Schiavino founded the event.
“It’s a big deal. Retail does great. Restaurants kill. It’s a big success for us,” he says.
Schiavino also teamed up with the Light of Day Festival, which features a concert at the Paramount Theater in Asbury Park. The concert will benefit Parkinson’s disease research.
The art on display includes paintings taken from the legendary Upstage Club, the club where Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band first met. The club has been closed since the 1970s.
