The open land surrounding the smiling face of Tilly by the Wonder Bar will look much different if plans go the way Somerset developers have laid out.
The city planning board approved a massive proposal last week to add more than 150 residences next to the iconic bar. This approval gives the green light for an eight-story luxury condominium development, including 155 residential units, 264 parking spots, lots of retail space, and ground floor storage.

In recent years, the Asbury Ocean Club Hotel Residence opened a block away with hotel rooms fetching upwards of $600 a night during the peak summer season. These developers are also the same ones responsible for the makeover of BellWorks in Holmdel.
Construction on the Asbury Park beach front skyline project is scheduled to begin as soon as 2024.
