A church in Asbury Park is helping keep kids off the street and teaching them a little about bicycle repair.
At ?The Bike Church,? children help repair a bicycle and then get to keep it. Those who run the program say it takes approximately four weeks to get the bikes repaired.
Kerri Martin founded ?The Bike Church? on Second Avenue in the garage of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church. Martin says the program is not only physical, but also spiritual.
?We?re not teaching them to be bike mechanics,? Martin said. ?We?re teaching them they can do something ? take something and give it another life.?
Those at the church recommend residents call before making any used bicycle donations. The church also needs bike lock and helmet donations.
