A beloved school bus driver celebrated a decade of lifesaving brain surgery by spreading holiday cheer on Wednesday.
Joe Torres, of Wappingers Falls, was diagnosed with a rare type of brain tumor in August 2013.
Dr. Guy McKhann II, who works at New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, was one of the few doctors in New York City who knew how to perform the lifesaving brain surgery.
Torres was treated at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center Once he recovered from the surgery, he was inspired to give back to his community.
He is now a school bus driver with the Arlington Central School District and regularly runs events and fundraisers for the community.
Torres celebrated his new lease on life by greeting nearly 50 students and seniors at a senior center in Poughkeepsie to share his holiday spirit on Wednesday.
Local students joined him to perform Christmas carols at the senior center.
