Some New Jersey gun violence prevention groups are upset over a connection between Sesame Place, a beer maker and the National Rifle Association.
Up until last Friday, if people made a $50 contribution to the NRA?s legislative action group, they could receive two tickets to Sesame Place in Pa. The park is owned by Anheuser Busch, which also owns Busch Gardens and Sea World. Some anti-gun groups call the three-way connection to the children?s show an unholy alliance.
?Kids, guns and beer is a bad mix and it should be stopped,? Bryan Miller, of Ceasefire, New Jersey, said.
Last week, Sesame Workshop, the non-profit educational organization behind Sesame Street, said the characters can?t be used for any political solicitation. Sesame Place was then removed from the NRA?s contribution Web site. However, the other two parks owned by Anheuser Busch remain on the site.
Anti-gun violence groups said removing just the one park is not enough because Sesame Street has an agreement to put characters in all the parks.
An Anheuser Busch spokesperson said the company has no plans to stop the NRA from offering tickets to the rest of its parks. Meanwhile, anti-gun violence groups started a letter-writing campaign asking Sesame Workshop to cut its ties with the NRA and Anheuser Busch.
